Experience and a detailed understanding of the System environment and requirements are key to engineering high quality hardware. RPM’s staff of engineers, with over 250 years of combined mechanical and electrical control engineering experience, have the background and experience necessary to design and manufacture high quality positioning products for any application.

Rotating Precision Mechanisms, as an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), has been developing single and multiple axis positioners and control systems since 1975. RPM’s broad range of Pedestals include designs for every environment, including ground based (fixed, vehicle mounted, and man-portable), shipboard, and airborne applications. All of these products have been designed to meet the requirements of MIL-E-16400, resulting in a complete line of positioner designs that are capable of pointing up to 13-meter-diameter reflectors and larger, rotators for up to 30-meter antennas, or units small enough to be transported in a commercial suitcase.

RPM uses the most modern computer design tools such as AutoCAD 2007® (CAD), Mechanical Desktop 2007® and Inventor 11® (Parametric Solid Modeling), OrCAD 9.1® and Multisim 9® (Electronics), COSMOS/DesignSTAR 2006® (FEA), Lab Windows® (Instrumentation), and SURFCAM 2005® (CAM) to develop, refine, manufacture, and test each design concept.

These computer tools enable RPM to perform structural, vibration, and thermal analysis of pedestal components, and to predict pedestal performance with specific load configurations. RPM has also developed several proprietary analytical routines for analysis of finite structural elements and system performance parameters.

This greatly reduces R&D time spent in engineering and eliminates errors in the design, resulting in products which are easily manufactured, assembled and maintained, and will meet or exceed all aspects of the customer’s specification.

In addition to providing custom solutions for customer requirements, RPM has a complete array of standard Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) and Non-Developmental Items (NDI) for commercial, scientific and military applications. Our modular approach to hardware often makes adapting these existing designs to new requirements possible. This reduces development time and cost, while assuring high quality Pedestals by building on proven components.
